Tammy Tibbetts is a Nationally
Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist, who has been practicing
since August 2000. Her previous career in the hospitality
industry was a great stepping stone to her decision to become a
massage therapist. "After working so many years in the resort service
field, I was never really able to see the fruit of my efforts. When I
became a massage therapist, I began to realize the true fulfillment of
helping people to feel better." In 2001, Tammy expanded her
traditional massage experience and became a Certified Massage Doula
("Doula" comes from the Greek word meaning "woman's helper") or "woman
servant").
A Doula specializes in helping women during labor. Tammy practices
fundamental methods for massaging pregnant women. She understands the
structural adjustments, which occurred in pregnancy, the benefits, and
contraindication for Prenatal Massage. Tammy is also trained in Deep
Tissue and Trigger Point Therapy, Neuro-Muscular, River Stone Therapy
and Tandem Massage. She works for a local Hotel Spa, which has
increased her expertise due to the volume and variety of massages she
has administered.
Benefits of Prenatal Massage
Therapeutic massage is a completely safe, natural, drug-free method of
relieving the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Massage
assists the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Massage helps alleviate
stress on the weight-bearing joints of the hips, pelvis, knees and
ankles. It also relieves soreness in the muscles that are supporting
the additional weight of the baby. Massage allows the mother to learn
relaxation skills valuable during labor. Massage provides a nurturing
and soothing touch, which promotes release of emotional and physical
tension. When the mother is able to relax during pregnancy, it has an
impact on her fetus. Studies have shown that babies sense and respond
to their mother's stress levels as registered by increased heartbeat.
Benefits of Having a Massage Doula
As a Massage Doula, Tammy can provide benefits to assist both mother
and father. For the mommy: before, during and after birth. For the
daddy: it will actually increase his enjoyment of the birth
experience. The father will be able to spend more time giving his wife
emotional support while Tammy is massaging any back pain and
monitoring for tension in other areas of her body. Tammy's desire is
to help make sure the mother is cared for and as comfortable as
possible. "My focus on expectant mothers is based on the incredible
therapeutic results that I see with massage. I am very grateful for
the gift God has given me to help others."
